“God spare us from such violent death”

I was chatting online with a nun who is very close to me for she taught at my elementary school from 2004 or so. Yes, she was the one who said that line above, “God spare us from such violent death”.

The thing is that she told me to pray for another former student of my school. This girl is older than me, probably around four to five years older than me. In fact, she is supposed to be finishing her bachelor’s degree this March at the University of the Philippines.

What happened was that, she was alone at home (this was in Metro Manila, Philippines) when robbers mugged her family’s residence and she got stabbed to death. What had happened sadenned her classmates from our school and at the University of the Philippines. I do not know her, I just know that she had contributed a lot to our school and was very active in our school community just as I was before I left in 2007; but even so, I would like to express my condolences to her family and close friends.

The incident just came into the knowledge of our school administration; and according to a University of the Philippines tweet and a tumblr post from a former classmate of hers, the incident just came to their knowledge less than 12 hours ago. At this time, there is no information on whether or not the police have found the suspects. May justice be given; but as I see it, nothing can give justice to the loss of a life. Especially hers because for everyone at my former school, she has been one of the model students, in fact much more influencial and admirable than I am.

May her soul rest in peace.
